

Nomination Process & Criteria

Who Can Nominate?

Individual Professional Members ( IPM)
-
Individual Professional Members (IPMs) in good standing may nominate themselves
or others for any Officer or Director position.

Member Chapters
-
Member Chapters in good standing may nominate any Officer or Director position.
-
To remain in good standing and retain the right to nominate and vote, each Member Chapter must fulfill the following requirements by May 30, 2025, in accordance with the Affiliation Agreement:

Pay annual chapter membership dues – You can either use the invoice we already sent earlier this year or use this payment instructions link

Submit a current membership report: Chapter Membership Report

Submit a list of current board members: Chapter Board Members Report
-
Submit an activity report: Chapter Activity Attestation

Nominations can only be submitted on behalf of the Member Chapter Board of Directors, which resolved to nominate the individual(s) through a majority vote.

Submission Process:

Nominations must be submitted through the official nomination form
-
Nominations open on July 8, 2025.
Nominees must provide a written statement explaining their qualifications and motivation for serving on the board. (This can be submitted via the nominations form)

All nominations must be submitted by August 8, 2025 (23:59 UTC).
Qualifications
Per Bylaws Article IX, Section 9.1 and the Nomination Skills Guidelines
(some of these are required and some are optional), nominees must meet the following qualifications:
Governance & Leadership Experience:
-
All candidates must be Individual Professional Members of DAMA-I.
In addition, they must have leadership experience: -
Completion of a full term as:
-
A DAMA-I Board Director or Officer, or
-
A DAMA-I Chapter Board Director or Officer, or
-
A Director/Officer of another professional, nonprofit, or corporate board.

Skills & Competencies:
The following are desirable skills and competencies
for all candidates for election to the DAMA-I Board of Directors.

Strong collaboration, strategic vision, and leadership skills.
-
Ability to commit significant time to DAMA-I board activities, including meetings and strategic planning.
-
Adherence to DAMA-I’s ethics and conflict of interest policies (Bylaws Article IX, Section 9.1).
-
Preferred skills & expertise:
-
Data Management & DMBOK framework knowledge.
-
Finance, accounting, or nonprofit financial management.
-
Legal, compliance, or nonprofit governance experience.
-
Technology and digital strategy expertise
(e.g., cloud computing, cybersecurity, enterprise solutions).
-
Nomination Review Process:
Governance & Nominations Committee Review
-
The Governance & Nominations Committee will verify candidate eligibility based on DAMA-I’s bylaws, governance experience, and skills criteria
(including membership in good standing of DAMA-I and required leadership experience). -
The committee will recommend a slate of candidates for board positions.
Based on its review of candidate qualifications and the following factors
set out in the DAMA-I bylaws:

Individual diversity

Geographic distribution
-
Level of data management interest and activity
-
Relevant professional experience
-
Skills and abilities
-
Language competency
-
Willingness to actively engage with an international organization
Petition Process for Non-Slated Candidates
-
Candidates not included on the final slate may petition to be added to the ballot.

Petition requirements (Bylaws Article IX, Section 9.3.3):

100+ signatures from Individual Professional Members (IPMs) in good standing, OR
-
Endorsements from 10+ DAMA-I Member Chapters.

Petition period: August 18 – September 18, 2025.

Participation & Eligibility
Who Can Vote?

Member Chapters in good standing as of July 1, 2025
(each chapter designates onevoting representative). -
No proxy voting is permitted per Bylaws Article IX, Section 9.4.
Who Can Run for the Board?
-
Must be an Individual Professional Member (IPM) in good standing at the time of nomination.

Must meet governance experience criteria (Bylaws Article IX, Section 9.1):
-
Completion of a full term as:
-
A DAMA-I Board Director or Officer, or
-
A DAMA-I Chapter Board Director or Officer, or
-
-
A Director/Officer of another professional, nonprofit, or corporate board.
-
Must sign DAMA’s conflict of interest and code of ethics policy.
-
Must submit a written statement of intent explaining why they want to serve on the Board.
Code of Conduct for Candidates
Campaigning Rules
To ensure a fair, ethical, and professional election process, all candidates must adhere to DAMA International®’s campaigning guidelines. Candidates are expected to conduct their campaigns with integrity and respect for fellow nominees and the DAMA-I community.

Prohibited Campaign Activities:

No False or Misleading Statements
– Candidates must ensure that all statements about their qualifications, experience, or other candidates are truthful and accurate. Any misrepresentation may result in disqualification. -
No Use of DAMA-I Resources for Personal Gain
– Candidates may not use DAMA International®’s communication channels, mailing lists, logos, or financial resources for personal campaigning purposes. All campaign efforts must be conducted independently. -
No Negative Campaigning
– Campaigning must focus on positive engagement. Personal attacks, defamation, or attempts to undermine other candidates will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action by the Governance & Nominations Committee.
Candidate Expectations
All candidates must conduct themselves in a manner that upholds DAMA International®’s mission, values, and ethical standards.

Maintain Professionalism
– Candidates are expected to communicate respectfully with fellow candidates, members, and election officials, both in public forums and private discussions. -
Follow DAMA’s Ethics & Governance Policies
– All candidates must abide by DAMA International®’s Code of Ethics, Conflict of Interest Policy, and Bylaws throughout the election process. -
Encourage Fair Participation
– Candidates should promote member engagement in the election while respecting DAMA International®’s policies on neutrality and fairness.
Violations of these rules may be reviewed by the Governance & Nominations Committee, and disciplinary action—including disqualification—may be taken where necessary.
